Group Policy Combined with PowerShell

Specops Command is a revolutionary new solution that gives you the power to manage any number of computers using Group Policy and Windows PowerShell. With Specops Command you can write PowerShell or VBScripts and have them executed on selected computers throughout your network all through Group Policy. This is a true Group Policy Extension that is non-proprietary, no agents, no additional hardware and absolutely no schema changes. Since Group Policy is a technology that is already used in almost every organization today, there is virtually no learning curve.

Targeting

Targeting is a system for doing fine grained scope management within Group Policy. A Group Policy Object (GPO) in itself has limited targeting capabilities. It can be linked to an OU, site or domain or filtered on security groups, and (for those brave enough) filtered by WMI queries.
Specops targeting takes this to another level by introducing client evaluated target criteria. A target criterion can for example be the presence of a specific file, a registry entry, operating system, service pack level, hard drive free space and many more.

Licensing

When you download Specops Command for the first time you get a Free license sent to the email address specified when registering. The Free license has no restrictions regarding the number of computers where it can be used. When starting to use Specops Command with a free license it will work and behave just as the full version for a period of time (20 days by default.) After that it will enter Free mode for 150 days, which can be extended by contacting Special Operations Software.

In Free mode some features are disabled. The Full license adds a number of features that grants you the power to manage your organization in an automated way that previously was not possible. However even the Free license adds tremendous value compared to today’s logon and startup scripts, and give you powerful options not available without Specops Command. Logon and Startup scripts as we know them today will never be the same, Specops Command brings you the future of scripting, today!
