Minor update: Just tested on a Vista notebook, and as I expected it acts the same way Win7 does. Once the key was entered, it remembered it on subsequent reboots.
I created a GPO to distribute wireless network settings to laptops. It's a WinXP wireless policy, as AD hasn't been upgraded to include Vista-level settings yet. I'm adding 3 wireless networks to the affected notebooks in this order: WEP, WPA, unsecured. The WPA network is somewhat unstable, so even though I prefer that one, I need to keep the WEP network as the primary (the wireless infrastructure is out of my control). The settings apply properly to WinXP & Win7 notebooks (haven't tested Vista). After settings apply, I can enter the WEP key with no problems, but on WinXP the key gets lost on reboot. Win7 retains the key after it's initial input.
How can I prevent WinXP from losing the WEP key when group policy re-applies?
