The GP team at Microsoft has just released a huge array of information on ADMX files.
#1: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=86092 - ADMX Sample file OverviewThis download provides two sets of sample files, created in the ADM and ADMX formats.
* Example 1 provides the simplest policy setting without any parameters.
* Example 2 contains an example of all possible parameters for a policy setting.
These files can be loaded into the Group Policy Object Editor on a Windows Vista-based computer.
They are fully functional; the policy settings displayed through the use of these sample files will configure registry settings under the registry keys
"[HKLM|HKCU]\Software\Policies\Examples".
The policy settings defined in these files will display in the Group Policy Object Editor under the following categories:
* The ADM file policy settings are found under "[computer|user] configuration\Classic Administrative Templates\Example 1 - Simplest single Group Policy setting" or "[computer|user] configuration\Classic Administrative Templates\Example 2 Policy settings
* The ADMX file policy settings are found under "[computer|user] configuration\Administrative TemplatesExample 1 - Simplest single Group Policy setting" "[computer|user] or configuration\Administrative Templates\Example 2 Policy settings"
#2: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=86094 - ADMX schema files
Overview: In Windows Vista, Group Policy Object Editor and Group Policy Management Console can obtain registry-based policy settings from an XML-based administrative template ADMX file. An ADMX file is defined as a set of one language neutral file (.admx) and associated ADMX language resource files (.adml).
The syntax for the ADMX files is defined through the ADMX schema.
#3: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=86095 - WinHelp ADMX files
Overview: Administrative Template files are used to populate user interface settings in the Group Policy Object Editor, enabling administrators to manage registry-based policy settings. This download provides the Group Policy Administrative Template files for Help for Windows (WinHlp32.exe).
