Question Installing ActiveX via User Config > Software Install Fails?

    Hi,

I have an ActiveX control (SafeView) that appears to require that it's installed for each user that logs in - I have logged in as Admin, installed it, tested the website that requires it, then logged out, and asked another standard user to login and test, and the website asks for the ActiveX control to be installed again.

So I setup a group policy to install the SafeView.msi ActiveX as a User Config > Software Installation. However when I get a standard user to login, this software install fails with the following error:

    Event Type: Error
    Event Source: MsiInstaller
    Event Category: None
    Event ID: 10005
    Date: 13/12/2011
    Time: 11:56:49
    User: DOMAIN\test.user1
    Computer: TESTPC1
    Description:
Product: SafeView -- Only administrator can run this setup

    Event Type: Error
    Event Source: Application Management
    Event Category: None
    Event ID: 102
    Date: 13/12/2011
    Time: 11:56:49
    User: DOMAIN\test.user1
    Computer: TESTPC1
Description: The install of application SafeView from policy SWI - SafeView Deployment failed. The error was : Fatal error during installation.

I thought group policy software installs ran with Admin privilages? If not, how can I deploy this ActiveX control to every user that logs on to a PC without a) doing it manually, or b) making them local admins?

    Many thanks

    Ben

Have you tried applying the software install to the Computer side instead so it installs for everyone on the computer?
