    So, I'm learning about this GPSI component of Intellimirror and I've run into a stumbling block of some sort. A very tiny one...

    I've created a simple .ZAP file to install Winzip 8.0 (just like in the book) and everything goes right until the actual install. The package does get published in the add/remove programs applet but when I click "ADD" a window opens the location where the setup.exe AND .zap package are located and does nothing.

    I could be reading this wrong but can someone tell me if the setup.exe is supposed to fire up on it's own when I click on the add button? I realize the user will have to walk through the setup but I just want to make sure I'm not doing something wrong.

    [Application]
    FriendlyName = "Winzip 8.0 Zap Package"
    SetupCommand = "winzip80.exe"
    DisplayVersion = 8.0
    Publisher = Winzip Computing

    [Ext]
    .zip
    .arc

    Is this the way it's meant to be done. When the window opens, I'm looking at the zap package AND the .exe

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks!

    <Turn hypnosis on>

    I know you don't *REALLY* want to use ZAP files..

    Noooooo... ZAP files are bad.... BAD... BAAAAD....

    <Did my hypnosis work?>

    Anyway.. one thing to try is to expressly
    put in the UNC path, like \\server\share\filename.exe
    instead of just leaving it to chance as filename.exe.

    Let us know if that works.

    BETTER .. of course, is to repackage the application with an MSI repackaging tool....

    The hypnosis is starting to work... :lol:

    I created another directory under my GPSI "Apps" share (same level as Winzip80 and then added the long path \\server\share\appdir\file.exe in quotes to the ZAP file.

    I did get the same result as before; however, this time I don't have the .ZAP file the same location as the .exe file - so when I click on the add button in add/remove programs (using a non elevated user account) I only get the .exe - which I guess I can live with.

    I probably won't use a .zap file in my production environment if I can avoid it by repackaging the app into an .MSI format but I wanted to see if I could get it to work - which I thought would be relatively easy.

    It was, but I just don't get the setup.exe to launch automatically - minor details... thanks for your response.
