Event ID 1085
I have a Windows XP sp3 machine that is having trouble with a GP software installation. It will get stuck at the applying software installation when booting. It never did complete and I rebooted into safe mode and took a look in the event viewer.
I find Event 1085
The Group Policy client-side extension Software Installation failed to execute. Please look for any errors reported earlier by that extension.
The problem is that I do not see any earlier errors. This same GP is working on other XP machines in our environment, it seems to be an issue with this particular computer.
Any ideas?

Did you ever figure this out? I am having the same problem with a Windows XP SP3 Machine (Win 7 Machines work fine).
