I wanted to create a shortcut to be placed on desktop different OUs. This shortcut would point user to a share folder.
    1. created a shortcut and placed in share folder so everyone can access.
    2. used a simple bat file to copy the shortcut from the share folder to users desktop.
    (XCOPY "\\server2\profiles\sospolicy.LNK" "%userprofile%\Desktop")
    3. used group policy management and windows, user, logon script to apply the bat file.

If run the bat file manually it works out fine. But it would not work with group policy.
I have used the gpupdate /force. Gpresult shows the policy is applied. But no icon for shortcut appears on desk top. Windows2003 server (spk2) and client are xp (spk2).
    Any suggestion is much appreciated.

Scripts only run either at bootup for the Computer or during login for the User. A gpupdate /force will only queue any changes in the scripts for the next reboot/login but they won't apply immediately. This is different than other types of policies such as the ones in the Administrative Templates which usually take effect immediately once they are applied.
