Default Office 2007 ADM and ADMX/ADML files at the same time

    Hi,

My environment is made of W2000/W2003 Domain controllers and W2000/XPSP3 computers.

I've created a central store from my Windows 7 management station and copied to the PolicyDefinition Folder the ADMX/ADML files for Office 2007. Before that, I'd also added the ADM files for Office 2007 and create some policy settings with these files.

Before creating the central store, I went to a client machine, ran the rsop.msc and could see the policy settings applied on the local computer. After adding the ADMX files, when I run rsop.msc on the local computer I can only see them as extra policy settings, even when I've not set any policy setting via ADMX files.

How could I solve this problem?, is it a bad idea to have ADM and ADMX files at the same time for the same product?.

    Thanks in advance.

    Default Yes and yes

    1. You can have both ADM and ADMX of the same product.. but why? They are 100% overlapped. Just use ADMX and be done with it.
    and
    2. RSOP.msc is "stupid" and "broken" for Vista and onward. It ships in the box but is unreliable. You might be getting what you want and just don't know it. Use GPRESULT /H out.html and look at the file and see if you got what you wanted instead.

    Hi Jeremy,

First off, thank you for your answer.

I agree with you about using GPRESULT /H command, but my environment is made of 90% of Windows XP machines and as far as I know that parameter (/H) doesn´t work with Windows XP. May be I'm mistaken.

What's the most reliable utility in Windows XP to get the GPO's applied and their configuration?. Rsop.msc was working really well.

The actual problem of having ADM and ADMX files for the same product is that when I run rsop.msc on XP and see the results, if I go to administrative templates, the console shows the policy settings set by the adm files as extra registry configurations and can only see the hive of the registry that is modified.

If I run gpresult, I just see the registry hive modified but don't see any explanation of the polcicy setting nor the value of the registry key.

On the other hand, when I have a look at the policy settings for Office 2007 from the admx files, I can see that all of the require at least Windows Vista, how can I apply those policies to Windows XP systems?.

    Thank you again.

Default Use regular GP results reports

Just use the GPMC.. on a Win7 machine.. and run the GPMC "GPresults reports" against each machine. That's the best.
