Default Windows 7 - GP applied but settings won't take unless user gpudates then logs off/on

    Hi all,

I done a search here that really isn't returning much, so I'll try this way.

We have our first group of Win 7 Pro 32 OS machines on campus. We apply things like default IE home page, some general office settings, etc.

Issue at hand: The machine boots, I log in as a new user (so new profile is being created each time). I get partial GP settings (the policy has been in place for days). While logged onto the machine as that user I can run gpupdate/force and log off user then log back on (not a restart) and "tada" everything is there. I do a restart, log on as a different new user, and the same issue rears it's ugly head and I can resolve it that same way. Problem is these machine will be going into labs and we will (like the hundreds of other machines we have) be running deep freeze on them. So, once the user logs off, their profile goes away. The next user comes on board signs in, and we have the same issue all over again, and again, and again. This is something we are only seeing a problem with on windows 7. Our hundreds of XP machines work as expected. We can't expect all of our win 7 users to log on, run gpupdate, log off and then back on again to get the correct settings.

We have tried most if not all of the synchronous type settings, disabled local GP from running at all, tried old vista tricks we have found online, etc.

Thoughts? Tips? Tricks? What are we missing?

    Thanks all.

wow...all these views and not one reply......
little more info, per RSOP/results, all the policies are applied. Just not all of it set unless we manually do the second gpupdate force. This is happening on different models of laptops, all running win 7 pro. Newly deployed images but the same isssue occurs using the "out of the box" build.

    What policies are being applied?
What does the Group policy event log show?
