Tom - Did you ever get this issue resolved. I am having a similar issue and I have been chasing a viable solution for several weeks now with no success
Thanks
2008r2 domain. I have a gpo which I use on almost all student computers to lock them up pretty tightly. I also use it to create shortcuts on their desktop. I created a new ou for a group of xp computers and placed them in their and applied the gpo. It will not apply the shortcuts which I create in the preferences of the user configuration and I do loopback processing.
Works great on my other ou's. It will not create the shortcuts in the new ou. The other settings are applied.
When I do the group policy results wizard with the Administrator logging on to the computer I see all the settings.
When I use a normal user I get "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" when I try to access the settings. I get the same thing when I open up the gpo in the gpo ou. However most gpo's will open correctly.
I always create and edit the gpo's on a 2008r2 server using group policy management.
Help???
