    When GP users work off site at client sites and connect using a D-link router or Linksys router (or any router) it will take 4 mins for the desktop to show after entering the password and the PCs are slow to communicate between each other. However when a standard switch is used the issues do not exist. I understand this may be related to a DNS timeout and that user's GP Profile gets loaded from the domain servers during logon. When the users work off site they are only connected to each other. GP is managed by the National office and they say there is no fix. I think it is releated to the downlaoding of the GP settings during logon to the domain. I want to start using wireless at client sites but can not with a slow connection speed with routers. I am wondering if anyone else has seen this issue and could provide a solution.

    Find out which DCs are authenticating logons.
    Do this via the SET command, which will show

    LOGONSERVER = <something>

    Then do a tracert to that computername.

    Paste the information here.

    Very curious how long the trace takes on these machines with the long timeout.

    Thanks.

    Since there is no DNS available while working off site, I put the 127.0.0.1 address in the router's DNS settings and it has increased the logon and file sharing speed to an very acceptable time frame.
