One more questions sinds i run into a problem at work
With Windows NT 4.0 Policy application we could set the preferences for the background a specific client needs te see.

    For instance \\server\background$\whatever.bmp
This is also possible in W2003 Group Policy but only in the Active Desktop Section(Administrative Templates\Desktop\ActiveDesktop)
But when i want to disable some settings in Active desktop area it also isn´t processing my wallpaper path so the client gets a blue standard Windows Classic background.
The fun part is when i delete the local cached profile (i do not use a roaming profile with my test account) and login after, the GPO processes my wallpaper, but after three times of login i still get the Windows classic blue background instead of my wallpaper.

    My questions;

Do i have to look in an other place within the GPO settings to specify wallpaper paths and active settings?

Or is their a ADM templayte wich has the correct Wallpaper section

Or do i have to tune the Active Desktop settings (how?) so that the wallpaper is always active?

Or do i have to place the wallpaper on a domain controller (netlogon) and point to that path sinds the wallpaper is on the client machines under %windir% ? wich is not the correct way for the GPO to process the wallpaper setting.

:?: or do i need a vacation

I think you are in the right place. What are you disabling in Active Desktop? The last setting Allow Only Bitmapped Wallpaper, would affect what you are doing if you 'disable' this setting since your wallpaper is a file is a .bmp. You are good with having the file located on the client. This is the way to go.

    Hi Kevin

In the Active Desktop Portion i have the active desktop wallpaper setting enabled and the allow only bitmapped wallpaper setting enabled.

In Administrative Templates\Controlpanel\Display i have the prevent changing wallpaper setting enabled

this goes well the first time at logon my wallpaper appears on the client.
After three times "login" the wallpaper disappears and only a blue classic desktop screen is shown

When i delete the Local Profile (C:\Documents and settings\GPO) and login again the wallpaper appears again the same issue repeats itself over and over again???

This is in a Baseline Policy i made for employees so their is only a Default Domain Policy from above being processed and this Policy has no desktop settings defined.

Do i need to dive into the registry of the client to see what is going on?
I looked at the wallpaper setting in the policies section of the registry and it states that the bmp file is marked active

I think it has to be the "Force Classic Shell" option under the User "Hive" Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Explorer that blocks Active Desktop Wallpaper to function properly.

I Found out that when the above option in the GPO is set to not configured my wallpaper is being processed the way it should be.
But when you enable it the wallpaper is being processed but dissapears after GPO processing is done.
