Unhappy Proxy Server setting not taking

    I guess this goes here.

We are updating one of our computer models - they are still the same OS (XP), we are using the same policy and roaming profiles.

One of the things I had done on these before was set up a fake proxy (127.0.0.1 or somesuch) and then set up a few sites to whitelist including internal sites and a few others. This worked well, on the old model of computer. On my new computer model, it seems to put everything in the proxy config area, except the proxy server itself - the exceptions are there, etc, but without an IP in there for the proxy server, it is allowing access to everything. The only difference that I can tell between the old model and this one that I can tell is that the old model has IE7 and this one has IE8 - but I believe the proxy registry entries are the same between the two, so I can't figure it out. It appears fine in RSOP. Any tips?

I've found IE to be, quite frankly, the WORST application to configure with GPO!

I've had policies created that seem to apply with complete randomness, particularly where Proxy's are concerned.

How are you configuring the proxy - Through GPP or Internet maintainence? And user side or machine side?

Thank you thank you for your reply.

I am using Users/Policies/Windows Settings/Internet Explorer Maintenance/Connection/Proxy Settings. I do need to correct my earlier post. I saw no errors when running RSOP, however, I did notice something (I'm pretty new to troubleshooting some of these issues) - the "Internet Explorer maintenance" section is not even listed when I run RSOP on this user on this computer. Something is keeping IE maintenance from applying on this machine but I have no idea what.

Welp - nevermind - turns out it was not a GP issue at all..but rather an internal program causing a problem. Man that one nearly drove me crazy.

Default Use Group Policy Preferences to Configure IE Proxy Settings

Have you tried doing this using Group Policy Preferences. You can set up the proxy settings using the actual GUI interface of IE that you are accustomed to rather than using the Internet Explorer Maintenance method. Using GPP you can either set the policy for a specific version of IE as well. I am attaching an image of this process as an example.
