Hi mjp1101,
We have encountered the same scenario,we're you able to resolve this and if so what GP settings needs to be modified? Thanks.
Hi,
I'm not a DNS guru, but have been implementing Group Policies for our mixed environment of XP and 7. We're filtering the policies via WMI to an XP Standard GP and 7 Standard GP (because of the differences in the Firewall settings between the two).
I have identical options set for the XP and 7 GPs in the Computer Configuration>Administrative Templates>Network/DNS Client, which are setting the following:
1. DNS Suffix Search List : (multiple DNS suffixes)
2. Dynamic Update : Enabled
3. Primary DNS Suffix : Enabled (primary DNS suffix for domain here)
When I look at a Windows XP machine with the GP applied, it shows in Advanced TCP/IP Settings>DNS Tab, it shows the bullet for "Append primary and connection specific DNS suffixes" is selected, and can be changed to the bullet "Append these DNS suffixes (in order)" (not greyed out).
What is interesting is that the multiple DNS entries from the GP are not listed in the box below "Append these DNS suffixes (in order)", but when I run an IPCONFIG /ALL, it shows the appropriate DNS entries from the GP.
The Windows 7 machine shows, in the same DNS tab, "Append these DNS suffixes (in order)", lists the multiple DNS entries from the GP, and is greyed out. Also the DNS suffix for this connection is empty and not showing our primary domain DNS, as specified in the GPs.
Am I looking in the wrong place in GP for setting these options?? I have users that want to be able to add their own DNS suffix search order and they cannot with a Windows 7 machine. Ideas?
Thanks!

Hi ronnieg,
Unfortunately no, we have not made any progress and had no solution but to use their hosts file to route the traffic.
