Default Associate a file extension to an executable?

Is it possible that I can associate a file (*.mfgsys) to a program (mfgsys.exe) via GPO?

We have multiple remote locations, and this will save us the hassle to log-in remotely to each PC.

Well... found two ways of doing this... both worked but not what I was looking for.

    Option 1

    1. Exported the .reg file from a computer that I manually associated the file type.
    2. Called the .reg file from the login script.

It works, but... I hate the fact that it will run every time the users log-in.

    Option 2

    1. Converted the .reg file to .adm template.
    2. Imported the .adm file into Group Policy editor and created new policy from file.

Works as it should but, I found this was "cheating", and would love to find out how it should have really been done.

Use option 1, but setup the script to only run if its not been run before. Easiest would be to have the script not only run your file association reg keys, but a custom HKLM entry. The script can check for the custom HKLM entry, if found not run again.
