A mod can delete this thread if they want. I am hitching onto the other thread shown below.

Yes, this is revisiting a subject that others have approached. I just need to boil it down to more concise answers and info if possible.

I finally get to the point where I am OK deploying apps with GPO and Microsoft throws a monkey wrench in the works. I have been playing around with deploying Office Pro Plus with a GPO just to see what happens. I realize the .MSP file I created doesn't do anything when you push Office 2007 with a GPO. I'm OK with that. I have also edited the basic Config.XML under ProPlus.WW so that the install takes my PID and company name, but editing it any further makes my head spin. I'm no code monkey, so figuring out what I need and where has me baffled. I have searched around and found some threads that help a little:

Are there some basic clear templates out there that even somebody like me can understand? I copied one out of another thread but it just kind of turns into a blur after a while. It was so easy when you could just use the custom install wizard for installs like this.

Also, in my GPO I have 2007 set to upgrade 2003, but when the install runs it installs 2007 along side 2003. Several others have commented on this as well. What gives?

SMS is not in my budget right now. I have a hard enough time getting money allocated to update server hardware. I only have 50 some odd computers to upgrade, but I really don't want to have to walk around to each of them to take care of this.

Thanks in advance.

EDIT click on the link above and look at the last page of that thread. Aquateen just added an interesting post about how he is trying to work around the whole GPO issue.
