Subject line say it all, really...

I'm redirecting the Start Menus for several groups of users and although the redirection is working just fine, the "Synchronising folders.." dialogue box that appears when they log off is causing a problem for them (it's a perception problem, rather than a technical problem - they don't like to see it).

Any suggestions for suppressing this box?

    Cheers

By default any folders redirected with group policy are synchronized by default, even if offline files is completely disabled. To change this behavior, go to...

    User Configuration/Administrative Templates/Network/Offline Files

and set 'Do not automatically make redirected folders available offline'.

which will make the dialogue go away but not synchronise the files. Not a major issue for desktop-bound users, but probably kind of unhelpful for laptops.

@Scott - that sounds like just the job....! I'll try it tomorrow and post back.

@AdamV - good point; fortunately for me though, these are all desktop users..... (wait till the inevitable "exception-to-the-rule-must-have-a-laptop-user" requirement lands on my desk...!)

    Thanks both

    Cheers

 That GPO setting didn't have the effect I was hoping for... The box still appears, but on the plus-side, it whips through pretty quickly now.

    You could use this setting:
    Administrative Templates\Network\Offline Files
    \Administratively assigned offline files

If you disable this setting then it prevents any administratively 'pushed' files from being synched.

Since it is a computer setting (there is a mirror setting under users too) you could configure this to only affect desktops

You can also change the cache setting on the share to not allow files to be available offline (W2K3 only though.)
