    Default

    I've setup active directory with folder redirection in our office. The directories [application data, my documents, desktop] get created automatically [in c:\somefolder\%username%\] when a new user logs in, so the permissions are set automatically by the server. By default the only user who has access to those directories is the owner (%username%) when logged in under their own login.. even though I'm the admin on the server, I cannot access those files. I cannot change ownership since they are still active users (not fired yet), but I need the admin user to have access to those files so that I can also do an incremental backup to a NAS. I've tried doing this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/288991 ... but it did not work, I still get the access denied.. My question is how do I enable read/write permissions for the administrator on the server machine, WITHOUT changing ownership to administrator so that an incremental backup can run on the directory c:\somefolder\

    Default Fixed: Redirected Folders won't allow offline folders (article 288991)

    I followed 288991 to a T but ran into the same issue. I troubled for house but came up with a work around.

    what I did was also add group 'domain users' group to the root share with:

    * list folder / read data
    * Read Permissions
    * Read Attributes
    * Read Extended Attributes

    but with the 'apply to' set to 'THIS FOLDER ONLY' in the advanced section and this solved the problem totally! All users can read the root folder but only see their folder and offline folders and files synchronizes without error!!!
