We had a similar issue once.
Our folders were redirected to a cluser node. Everytime we failed over the users had to press F5 to see the desktop icons again. (not sure if this helps you though)
I just configured a gpo to redirect desktops to a dfs share.
It appears that all of the appropriate permissions are configured.
When users log in and create folders or documents on the desktop, they do not appear unless the hit F5 to refresh the desktop.
Has anyone experienced this?
Let me know if you need more info.

We have our desktop redirected to a DFS share and do experience this problem, but not everyone experiences it everytime. We have offline line files enabled for laptops and they see the network run a successful sync then the files on the desktop all disappear. Hitting F5 on the desktop makes them re-appear.
I just logged in to go through threads to see if anyone else has had the same issue and managed to resolve it.
