Smile WSUS Detect Windows Updates Installed

Does WSUS tell whether a Windows update has been installed right after it deploys updates to a PC, or does it have to wait until the PC checks in again to tell if the updates deployed were installed?

    Thank You.

You need to wait until the machine reports again.

It has to wait until the computer has checked in again. Depending on how often you have your systems checking ing, you will typically see that Approved updates will show as "Downloaded" and then "Pending Reboot." Once the computer has installed the update(s), rebooted, and checked in again, the update will no longer appear as being required. If the update has an error, you'll see in the WSUS console that the update has an error.

And if you have Windows Updates set up in Group Policy, you know the exact time at which the clients will check in. Double that with a GPP that forces your computers to shut down or reboot at a given time every evening and you can have dependable WSUS strategy throughout your network.
