    Default Documents Folder Empty

I am moving users from Windows XP to Windows 7 and the group policy they are using redirects their Documents folder to the same place that their "My Documents" folder was stored on the server (when they were using XP). I have also introduced roaming profiles as part of the migration which creates a V2 profile on the server.

On 2 out of 16 users so far, the items in the Documents folder have been deleted by something going wrong. One of the users logged onto a Windows 2003 server and the other "did nothing different". When this happens, the user's background picture turns to a black background and many configurations seem to be lost (like the Pinned Start Menu Items).

The fix is to blow away all of the profiles and start again. It also helps to restore their Documents folder.

Any ideas where I should be looking or possible solutions? I have about 50 more computers to implement and there are 2 of us doing it (it's going to take a while because of user training and such).

    Default First, stop everything....

Go right to the test lab and see if this is normal or abnormal behavior.

It sounds abnormal, of course.. but.. is it REALLY.

    Find out.

Then, use my book and turn on Folder Redirection logging.. figure out what it THINKS it's doing.. then proceed.

If all else fails, call Microsoft PSS and pony up the $150 for a killer answer, then post it here.

    Unhappy A book Typo?

Speaking of this - Am I missing something in the book? Page 642 tells how to do it Pre-Vista and then seems to skip over Vista and when it gets to Windows 7, it states that you should do it like Vista.

Hmmm... So how do I do it?
