    Morning all!

Having loads of fun with this one over in my other office and it's driving me insane!

    Situation:
All users are to have roaming profiles and as their profiles are so large, I've redirected "My Docs" and desktop onto one of the servers.

    Problem:
One of the users (boss - it's always the boss isn't it?!) needs to use his laptop both on the network and outside of the office and connect via VPN. However, when he does this the profile is not cached on the laptop and this he has nothing of use.

As far as I was aware, roaming profiles, folder redirection and offline files should cache profiles and files and allow users to logon to their PCs with the local profile even if they're not on the network.

Can anyone offer any pointers on where I'm going wrong?

    Tim/.

    Let's start with the basics....

    1) Have you trully assigned a RUP (Roaming User Profile) to your users (e.g. the user's account in Active Directory has an assigned value for the "User Profile" path on that user's Profile tab)? [This is as as opposed to a "Home Folder - Local path" on that same tab...or the "Profile Path" on the Terminal Services tab.]

Note If you have done this, then there is always a local copy of the user's profile on their laptop. That's how RUP profiles work.

    2) Did you exclude the My Documents and Desktop folders via AD Group Policy Object as targeted on those user's accounts?

    3) Did you also target the your users account's with Folder Redirection and redirect My Documents and Desktop via AD Group Policy Object?

    4) Did you configure the Boss'es server side "Redirected" folders to be cached offline?

Hey, Jerry. Thanks for the response.

    1. Yes, RUP is correctly assigned to all users. Thanks for the confirmation of the local copy being cached, thought I was loosing my mind for a minute.

    2. + 3. My Docs and Desktop are redirected to one of the servers via GPO not excluded by any other means.

    4. not as far as I'm aware, but another "techie" has been looking into it last week whilst I was off so i'll have to confirm that one separately.

    Tim/.
