    Default GPP printer mapping failed

    I'm trying to map a printer or two (Xerox) to a non-administrator users using Windows 7 but it isn't working.

    Here is the environment:
    * Print server is 2008R2
    * Client PC is Win 7 x64
    * Print server has both x86 and x64 printer drivers
    * Point and Print Restrictions is disabled in both Computer and User configuration nodes
    * Test user is a domain user
    * Test user is not a local admin on the client PC
    * Test printer is set to "Everyone" for print permissions

    Here are the GPO settings:
    Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates
    * Policy definitions (ADMX files) retrieved from the local machine.Printershide
    * Policy Setting Comment
    * Point and Print Restrictions Disabled

    User Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates
    * Policy definitions (ADMX files) retrieved from the local machine.Control Panel/Printers
    * Policy Setting Comment
    * Point and Print Restrictions Disabled

    Preferences\Control Panel Settings\Printers
    * Shared Printer (Name: \\dc1\W_FL1_1) W_FL1_1 (Order: 1)
    * General
    * Action Update
    * Properties Share Path \\dc1\W_FL1_1
    * Set this printer as default printer False
    * Local Port
    * Common
    * Stop processing items on this extension if an error occurs on this item No
    * Run in logged-on user's security context (user policy option) No
    * Remove this item when it is no longer applied No
    * Apply once and do not reapply No
    * Item-level targeting: UserAttribute Value
    * bool AND
    * not 0
    * name testUser
    * At this point, the client's event log shows the following:

    The Windows 7 event log shows Event ID 4098:
    The user 'W_FL1_1' preferences item in the 'policyName' {policyGUID} Group Policy object did not apply because it failed with error code '0x8007bcb The specified printer driver was not found on the system and needs to be downloaded.' This error was suppressed.

    This setup is for a "shared printer," but I've also tried with an "IP printer" and it doesn't work either. What else can we try? Thanks.

    Change this to Yes. You can also hit the Event Log... Group Policy Preferences will usually give you a pretty good error to let you know where it failed.
