Default Drive Map Extension - Trouble with System Variables

I'm trying to use the Drive Map extension to map a network resource. The mapping is to a folder on the network server specific that has the same name as the logged in user.

I'm using the Replace action and for Location I've tried the following: \\server\users\%LogonUser% (the variable was inserted after using the F3 option. It's being mapped to the H: drive.

When a user logs on, they get the mapped drive, but it maps only to the "users" folder, not that user's specific folder.

If I change the variable in Location by using F3 and unchecking the "Resolve Variable" option, users get the mapping directly to their specific folder. However, the following Warning appears in the Application Event Log:

    Event Type: Warning
Event Source: Group Policy Drive Maps
    Event Category: (2)
    Event ID: 4098
    Date: 5/21/2010
    Time: 3:41:54 PM
    User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
    Computer: ADUSER-2059DB1F
    Description:
The user 'H:' preference item in the '<name/guid of policy>' Group Policy object did not apply because it failed with error code '0x80070002 The system cannot find the file specified.' This error was suppressed.

The mapping is working but I'm just not comfortable with the warning nor do I understand what's causing it. Also, I'm a bit confused about the use of the "Resolve Variable" option. I've read in other posts that this option should be checked when using F3.

I've noticed lots of views (98), but no replies. I'm wondering if the drive map extension is a seldom-used extension. Or, maybe it's working and no one else has had a problem. If anyone has any information on this Warning, I'd be interested in knowing. Thanks again.

By default, the drive maps actually run in the context of SYSTEM and not the user that logging in. (The reason why the Event Log entry has "User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM" as the user and not DOMAIN\username.) So, the %LogonUser% is actually resolving to "system." I've never tried this, but I would be willing to bet if you created a folder called system it would probably map.

Good news... there's an easy way to fix it! Open up one of your drive maps by double-clicking on it. On the Common tab, check "Run in logged-on user's security context (user policy option)." Update the Group Policy on one of your machines and it should map.

    Here is what I use:

    Location \\domain.com\sharepath\%username%

In Common tab, check 'Run in logged-on user's security context (user policy option)'

This keeps it from running as the system account.
