Default GPPE printer Assignments taking a long time

I have an isue with Windows 7 clients on a W2K8R2 domain. I have a GPO for each of about 8 different printers. I assign the GPO to the user node so I can use shared printers that are facilitated by a W2K3R2 server runing the Print Manager role. I use targeting to identify the computer by NetBIOS computer name and assign the printer accordingly.

The problem I am having is that when I use GPPE to set up printers tis way, it takes 3-5 minutes to go from Login to desktop.

Any ideas or recomendations would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Dave

Using User GPP printer settings is a bad idea if you have users with roaming profiles who move around the areas which have different printers.
The user keeps the printers from the previous areas and they get installed all over again on each logon.

I changed to installing a 'local' LPT1: printer using the Computer GPP and then 'mapping' the local LPT1: to the required queue with a logon script.
