    Default GPP Deployment Question

    Hello All,

Do I need to deploy GPPs to ALL my 2003 servers and XP workstations in order to test Group Policy Preferences on a select few workstations? I currently have a vista laptop with the GPP management piece installed but I am trying to apply some settings to a few select workstations but without any results. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    thank you
    Brian

If you are using XP machines there are 2 updates you need for preferences to work.

the group policy preferences can be pushed out through WSUS, but the XML Lite one isn't listed (you can add it through coding, but not the normal way, or manually or script the install)

The workaround is to be on XP SP3, as the XML is included.

What I did to test if it was applying was to just create a desktop icon.

    Hello mgebauer,

Thanks for your reply. While I did deploy GPP, I will need to check on XML Lite(it was a while back). Thanks for the tip with XP SP3 having XML bundled in, too. I believe I tested the same way, I tried deploying shortcut to the desktop. Again, I appreciate your suggestions. This should help!

    Sincerely,
    Brian
