I am extremely new to AD and using Group Policy in our school. I would like to be able to simplify alot of the work I do on all the computers. I purchased the Group Policy, Profiles, and IntelliMirror for Windows 2003, Windows XP, and Windows 2000 book, but I can't get GPMC to load my domain. I am running Windows 2000 Server (on the server and it is also the domain controller) and all the others computers in the school are running Windows XP Pro (most with SP2). When I run GPMC on my Windows XP computer, it tells me that the domain doesn't exist or can't be contacted. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am trying to teach myself how to administer this network. Even if it is just to point me in the direction of where I can find some help. Thanks, Scott Bodager (SWBodager@aol.com)

Sounds like a basic problem with the workstation configuration - my best guess would be a missing DNS suffix (IP properties > advanced button > DNS tab). If not that, maybe it is pointing at the wrong DNS server or that server is misconfigured.

Thank you very much. I checked the DNS server and it was pointing to the wrong server. I changed it and it now lets me add the forest. Thanks again.
