    Hi,
I found out this problem is independent of the Internet Explorer version used. I also came across this problem and can reproduce it easily, no matter what version of IE is installed.

Luckily for me there is also the "right-click-advanced-view" option for the report. I mingled with some settings and only afterwards I decided to look which settings actual were applied to the user. I should have done this the other way around ops:

Nevertheless I think this is a bug in GPMC. And temporarily setting the "Internet Explorer Maintenance" -> "Security" settings to "Do not customize security zones and privacy" is a nasty workaround.

    Hey guys,

I ran into this yesterday, and can possibly shed some further light on what's happening

If you create a GPO containing Security Zone information "the usual way", where you import from the current machine, the GPO will corrupt if the machine from which you import, has IE7 on it.

Instead, you add the IE7 ADM file and do it from there.

You configure this (after adding the ADM file) at:

    User Configuration/Administrative Templates/Windows Components/Internet Explorer/Internet Control Panel/Security Page/Site to Zone Assignement List.

Add the site to the zone you need to add it. It's a bit of a more manual process, no real GUI to speak of anymore, but it does the job.

Then after you added the site(s) (or before), remember to configure the various options for that zone (they're in subfolders to the path listed above).

The Zone problem is the only thing I've seen conflict in a way that corrupts the GPO.

So, if you need to configure zones in this day in age - load the IE7 ADM file, configure zones on the path above - it works for IE6 too

Yep, this is a known issue with IE 7 and IE Maintenance Policy and is fixed if you are using GPMC from Vista, SP1. I haven't tested it on XP, SP3, but it might be worth checking there as well.
