I am a technology coordinator for a private high school - enrollment is around 550- i was hired 1 year ago. The outside contractor who set up the Windows 2003 and infrastructure seemed to do a great job, but the administrative part of the network has not been taken advantage of on any level. All users/computers are still in the original containers in AD, and I just got rid of my last Win98 workstation. I read your book and am realizing all that is available to me, as administrator. It is a wonderful book, and very easy to follow, as I was able to apply several policies in strategic places already. (At my last school, I had used Zenworks and then Winnt/Poledit, but my experience with Windows Server2003 is "evolving". )

I have free rein in setting up the AD/GP, and was wondering if anyone knew of any sites/books that dealt specifically with school environments. I need help in deciding "best practices" for this school, and I beleive that school environments are very unique in their needs/practices. For example, there are very few offices where 35 computers are accessing the same program/files at the exact same time. Can anyone help?

Have you tried looking at the Microsoft Common Desktop Scenarios? I'm not sure exactly what you are looking to accomplish, but there are certainly some solid examples of how to configure things for certain setups.

Here's a link to get you started:

    technet2.microsoft.com/windowsserver/en/library/7b33dcd6-0ad2-44e8-82f8-962425b6cf8e1033.mspx

    Hope that helps
